2017
The Beginning
Our journey started in 2017 as a result of our love and passion for the xinomavro wine and the special climate of the area plus the sandy soils on which the grapes can bring out all the aromatic and its versatile character. Those pillars were the foundations where Emmelis & Eritimos wines were built on. Our wines are available in the markets of Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland and America.
Vineyards location
The PGI Florina wines come from vineyards within the administrative boundaries of the Prefecture of Florina. Specifically, the grapes for the Emmelis & Eritimos wines are selected from grapevines in the municipal districts of Agios Panteleimon, Petres,
Xino Nero and Vegora.
Protected Designation of Origin
The PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Amyndeo zone is the northernmost, with the highest average altitude (615 m) of the four zones of PDO wine, where the Xinomavro variety is cultivated. Xinomavro and Amyndeo have always been closely linked, concerning the production of both red and rosé wines, due to the characteristic mesoclimate of the plateau, which favours the production of this type of wine. Furthermore, viticulture in the wider area of Florina goes back more than two millennia, based on the archaeological findings in the Hellenistic city of Petres. The findings in the area and the traditional worship of Dionysus, as well as St. Tryphon in Christian era, confirm the bond between vines and Amyndeo.
Climatic factors
Climatic factors maximize the quality characteristics of the wine. The cold winter with sufficient rain and snowfall ensures that the vines cope with the relatively dry and arid summer due to favourable climatic conditions. The necessary day and night temperature fluctuations during summer and the north-westerly winds of varying intensity ensure the health and sustainability of the vineyard.
Vineyards age
The vineyards selected are 10 to 20 years old with controlled yields not exceeding 1000 kg/ha.
